Growing up on a farm, my favorite time of the year was fall. I have many fond memories of the farm in the fall, but one of my favorites was the old apple tree next to our grain bins. I remember well my dad and I sneaking a fresh apple while we waited for the corn we just brought in from the field to unload. I still remember well the sights, sounds, and smells of harvest.
Being a part of the generosity movement, I still get excited about fall. Over the past few years we have seen a growing trend in farmers being creative with their giving. Instead of donating cash, they are donating grain instead. Literally giving of their “first fruits”! It is exciting to watch as farmers enjoy the fruits of their labor and share that with their favorite ministry. Ministries are now looking forward to “fall harvest” is ways they never have before. If you are a farmer, consider giving of your first fruits. If you know a farmer, let them in on this creative way to give.
