Have you ever really thought about Matthew 6:18-20? “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal.”
Let me share with you a story that for me exemplified this verse in real life. A very successful businessman, John, loves to give. You might even call him a kid in the candy shop when it comes to giving. He just couldn’t help himself and his joy was contagious – you find yourself wanting whatever it is that he is having!
John even shared how his business was a result of a call from God to be about funding His Kingdom. When profits were good that meant phenomenal giving opportunities. As the economic crisis took a particularly brutal hit to John’s industry profits began to shrink.
It was then that I realized while the dollars in John’s personal or business banking account were at risk, the dollars that John had invested in Kingdom work via giving were safe in an eternal account. An account where moth, rust, thieves and economic downturns could not touch.
